New Approaches to Traditional Music
In a series of Braemar residencies held throughout 2014, composer Ross Whyte and Glasgow-based folk singer/guitarist/composer Alasdair Roberts collaborated musically for the first time.
Building on Ross’s practice in the field of electronic composition as well as on Alasdair’s interest in the folk song culture of Scotland in general, the residencies provided an opportunity for both artists to broaden their own musical ranges in the creation of work which explore and engage with notions of tradition in a fresh, exploratory manner.
The residencies culminated in a performance at St Margaret's Church in Braemar and was followed by performance at Greyfriar's Kirk, Edinburgh on New Year's Day 2015.
