WHɎTE
WHɎTE’s unique blend of electronica and Gaelic song has been winning them plaudits at home and abroad since the band’s inception in 2016.
The duo comprises electronic composer, musician and Scottish Album of the Year-longlisted Ross Whyte (Aberdeenshire) and Gaelic singer, songwriter and twice-nominated Hands Up for Trad Gaelic Singer of the Year Alasdair C. Whyte (Isle of Mull).
The band’s sound is original and traditional. They perform innovative, electronica-infused songs in Scottish Gaelic – new and old – and instrumental pieces. Live performances feature processed vocals, keys and guitars; live looping; and programmed beats.
WHɎTE's acclaimed debut album ‘Fairich’ was released in 2016.
The band’s original Gaelic song ‘Cionran’ received the 2017 Hands Up for Trad/Creative Scotland Nòs Ùr Songwriting Award.
Their immersive, cinematic audio-visual show ‘Fairich: Live’ was selected as a Made In Scotland Showcase and premièred at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017.
The band have toured throughout Scotland and elsewhere in Europe, combining live festival performances with workshops on electronic composition, songwriting and traditional Gaelic song.
WHɎTE represented Alba/Scotland with original Gaelic songs at Liet International 2018 XXL in Friesland and Pan Celtic Festival 2017 in the Republic of Ireland.
WHɎTE's new album TAIRM is out now.
