Ross Whyte is an award-winning Scottish composer who writes for film and theatre. His most recent credits include the films Marram for BBC Alba, and Upstream, commissioned by Lyre Productions and The Canmore Trust.
His theatre scoring credits include La Performance (dir. Andy Arnold), jointly commissioned by Tron Theatre and International Visual Theatre which enjoyed sell-out shows in Glasgow and Paris, and MAIM (dir. Muireann Kelly), commissioned by Theatre Gu Leòr which he also created the sound design for.
Ross's new solo album and accompanying book, Provenance, was released in 2025, and has been described as "beautiful" (BBC Radio Scotland), "haunting and evocative" (The List), and "astonishing" (At the Barrier).
Ross completed a PhD in Musical Composition at the University of Aberdeen. He later co-founded the duo WHYTE, an ambient electronic act known for modernising traditional Gaelic songs. The duo won the prestigious Scottish Gaelic Award for Arts and Culture in 2019.
